The Committee is working on our 2024 plans! If you are interested in any or all of these, we ask that you let us know (Robin is Chair: robinschachat@gmail.com), so we have a sense of interest levels before we confirm anything financially.
One or the many advantages we all receive, as members of a Garden Club of America, is the opportunity to take wonderfully curated garden trips to faraway places with similarly-minded garden club ladies.
In this Newsletter you will see ideas from the GCA for glorious overseas travels, for one-day garden visits at Martha Stewart’s home in Maine or, during the freezing season at home, in Naples, Florida, for those of you who winter near there.
Do all of you SLGC ladies know that, in addition to the major trips GCA offers through our Visiting Gardens initiative, GCA also offers one day special tour events within the USA?
Thank you to member Ann Cicerella, who opened her beautiful garden to club members this week. Every corner of her yard held a special treat for the eyes. Fortunately, the bees cooperated and buzzed happily in their apiary.
August’s Visiting Gardens was a celebration of the flower. First we were greeted by Karen Colini and her two daughters, Katie and Mary, and a gaggle of ducks at Sweetbay Flower Farm. As we walked between the rows and rows of flowers we could focus on the beauty of each bloom and we understood the amount of work they committed to the garden's creation.
Many thanks to Ann and Richard Ames, and Brenda and Marshal Brown for opening their spectacular gardens for SLGC members to visit! Thanks also to Sally Roman for arranging the lovely day.
Sally Roman, Visiting Gardens chair, organized trips to two lovely gardens, The Wolcott Lilac Garden, and the Wilis Iris Garden at the Rockefeller Greenhouse. Both gardens were a treat for those who attended.
On September 6 several SLGC members were treated to a visit at the home of Brian Thompson, owner of Thompson Landscape Designs. His yard includes unique gardens on Richmond Road with intimate personal spaces and beautiful stone work.
