Two Treats in One Day!

August’s Visiting Gardens was a celebration of the flower. First we were greeted by Karen Colini and her two daughters, Katie and Mary, and a gaggle of ducks at Sweetbay Flower Farm. As we walked between the rows and rows of flowers we could focus on the beauty of each bloom and we understood the amount of work they committed to the garden's creation. Karen’s clematis collection was beautiful in August.... and we can only imagine what it is like in the spring with hundreds of varieties all in bloom. The girls explained their vision of how this farm might be shared with the community in a variety of ways and they asked for our ideas. We then gathered at the edge on a beautiful pond and enjoyed a delicious lunch Karen and the girls had graciously prepared for us.
Next we traveled a short drive to Frayed Knot flower farm and were greeted by Emily Peck, the creator of this impressive endeavor. Emily explained her philosophy of gardening - regenerative agriculture -rebuilding the carbon content of the soil by more sustainable beneficial farming practices. Emily had made small bundles of her flowers for each of us to take home. Emily also offers a weekly bouquet subscription using the flowers that come from her garden.
We all came home inspired and ready to work in our own gardens.
