It’s Visiting Gardens Season Again!
Robin Schachat
As you see, this month our Newsletter offers two new opportunities to visit famous gardens in the New York area with “On the Road with the GCA”. One of these is on May 16 at historic Greenwood Gardens, and sign-up will close very soon. The other combines Martha Stewart’s Cantitoe Farm in Bedford, NY, and Barbara Israel’s showplace home nearby on June 11, and registration will certainly fill early. If you plan to travel east and would like to enjoy either of these tours, please sign up early!
Meanwhile, here at home…
Plan for the next two SLGC Visiting Gardens programs! Put these 4 dates in your calendar, and confirm your space with Robin (robinslgc@gmail.com) so we can plan carpools when appropriate.
APRIL 10 Downtown Walking Tour:
“The Archive” Installation art by Rebecca Louise Law at the Cleveland Public Library; the Eastman Reading Garden; the Gardens and Sculptures of Public Square; and “Sky Blossoms”, the Shaker Lakes Garden Club’s Centennial gift to the city of Cleveland. 10:30 – 1 pm, followed by optional lunch
MAY 27 Leach Research Station, Madison OH. (see David G. Leach Research Station » Holden Forests & Gardens (holdenfg.org))
This 30 acre research site, an arm of Holden Forests and Gardens, includes 12 acres of display plantings many of which were planted by Dr. Leach in the mid-20th century as a part of his rhododendron breeding program. Rhododendrons and azaleas will be in full bloom when we visit. This one is a Do-Not-Miss-Opportunity, for the joy of wandering among fully mature bowers of bloom. Our tour will be led by Director Connor Ryan.
Wherever you go, don’t forget to take marvelous photographs to see you through the gray days next winter!
