It’s such an unusual spring this year with days close to the 80’s followed by frost advisories. My head is spinning with all the spring bulbs shooting out of the ground and the trees suddenly leafing out! Isn’t it wonderful though, to see life spring forth from the soil after its long winter’s rest?
We have a wonderful program coming up on May 30th at Edwins Restaurant in Shaker Square. Brandon Chrostowski, the founder of Edwins, will be there as well to update us on all the great things his students are accomplishing. We can only accommodate between 30-40 people, so please sign up early!
Details: A private cocktail reception at Edwins with appetizers and a selection of creative beverages. Founder and owner, Brandon Chrostowski will speak to us briefly about the latest at Edwins and the foundation it supports.

The 2023 NAL Conference was an energizing learning experience. The conference began with a day of educational meetings at the conference hotel, many focusing on the upcoming legislation that GCA would be promoting on The Hill on Wednesday.
A “responsible” citizen and community member in days gone by tended lawns that were perfectly mowed, fertilized, and weed-free. Times they are a changin'! A knowledgeable, conscientious homeowner in 2023 is more likely to shrink their lawn to plant natives and create a more functional, purposeful landscape.
Many thanks to the nearly 70% of you who generously contributed to the 2022-23 Charitable Projects campaign! You enabled SLGC to make a significant contribution to the organizations listed below, allowing them to better advance their missions in serving our community.
SLGC had a wonderful and educational morning last Tuesday at Tom’s Foolery distillery in Burton! We learned about the interesting process of turning corn, rye and apples into bourbon, rye whiskey and apple brandy.
It is time for Lesser Celandine to emerge. While your first reaction may be delight in seeing pretty yellow flowers in your lawns or garden beds, these are NOT your friends.

What's the news? What did you hear over the garden gate? Has your contact information changed since the new Directory was published? Who heard what? Who has learned something to share with us? Who has a great new idea? Who loves to share the miracles of nature? It's all here!
If there is one constancy in NE Ohio in spring, it has to be the unpredictability of the weather! So little snow this past winter, but so far, a long, cool spring, which is just fine by me! It’s the end of March and I’m spending more time outside cleaning perennial beds and preparing for the gardening season.
We have an exciting opportunity to tour Tom’s Foolery, owned by Tom Herbruck (nephew of our own Dozie Herbruck) and to learn about the process of turning local fruit and grain into apple jack whiskey. Tom doesn’t normally give tours and tastings, so this is a special treat!
