I’m writing this on August 17, one week into our relaxing vacation on Georgian Bay, Ontario. We are off the grid (solar works very well, with a little propane for the water heater) and surrounded by water, so life is a complete change from Cleveland!

Our speaker is the legendary mushroom whisperer, Tom Wiandt, owner of Killbuck Valley Mushroom Farm just outside Wooster, Ohio. You may have seen Tom and his wife Wendy (pictured here) selling mushrooms at the Shaker Heights Farmer’s Market where they have a cult following.
Read MoreThe GCA’s Shirley Meneice Horticultural Conference will be virtual again this year. It has always been a big event, but only two members from every club were able to participate until Covid made it virtual and every member could be part of it. This year the organizers asked Cynthia Druckenbrod to do a video about hybridizing daylilies, so plan to join the Zoom conference! The dates are September 22 and 23, from 11:00 - 1:00 and 4:00 - 6:00 both days.

Summer is in full bloom, and it’s going fast. My own garden has not had the attention I gave it last year, when it was my refuge from the enforced isolation of lockdowns and cancellations, but it’s looking decent – this has been a good growing year for everyone.

We will need hostesses for the morning meetings where we provide coffee and goodies, and one hostess will take reservations for each occasion.
