President's Letter - June 2021
Leigh Fabens
Greetings, Garden Friends –
What a month we’ve had – gloppy snow on Mother’s Day, 90 degrees two weeks later! Our plants’ heads are spinning, but it looks like most of the flowering shrubs and trees have survived and bloomed. I’ve enjoyed walking around the neighborhood, doggies in tow, observing the progress of the gardens. (And I keep the dogs away from them – tree lawns OK, gardens not.)
I attended the virtual Annual Meeting of the GCA in early May, and, like the virtual conferences that the GCA has made available to all members this year, it was expertly executed, very informative, and inspiring. Affiliated clubs are autonomous, and the GCA describes itself as an umbrella organization, but we get great resources and a high level of support for the dues we pay to the national organization. The sessions were recorded, and I encourage you to visit the Meetings and Conferences page on the website and pick and choose what to watch in case you missed it.
Exciting news about our own Annual Meeting on June 29: we’re going live, at Ruth Eppig’s beautiful house and garden on Lake Erie in Bratenahl. The Board will treat everyone who attends to lunch. And valet parking! No charge at all. (You can thank the pandemic for playing havoc with our budget, and we are happy to be able to treat our members to a celebratory event.) Look for an invitation in your email, and be sure to reply by June 14 because we need to know how many tables and chairs to rent and what food to order.
See you in person on June 29!
Leigh
