I was lucky to represent SLGC at the Shirley Meneice Horticulture Conference in the Boston area. I learned new things, and I met many kind, accomplished, and knowledgeable women, including many of the other representatives from Zone X. It was an activity filled few days with wonderful tours and information from experts.
What's the news? What did you hear over the garden gate? Has your contact information changed since the new Directory was published? Who heard what? Who has learned something to share with us? Who has a great new idea? Who loves to share the miracles of nature? It's all here!
Irishtown Bend was once the home of a 19th century Irish shantytown on the banks of the Cuyahoga river. Come and meet the design team who will show our group their 21st century plans to create a beautiful 23 acre waterfront park in this underutilized land with a gorgeous view of the Cleveland skyline.
Please sign up to hostess one of the monthly membership meeting this year! Responsibilities include taking RSVP’s and providing beverages and light snacks.
The Floral design workshop was a success! We spent the morning working with beautiful flowers. Katie and Mary (Karen Colini’s daughters) from Sweet Bay Flower Farm supplied us with a spectacular flower bar and Amy Miller provided pointers as we created our own individual masterpieces.
It is never too early to begin thinking about proposing someone for membership. We are looking for enthusiastic members who want to be part of our community of flower arrangers, horticulturalists, needle pointers and nature lovers.
For many years the Moreland Courts Condominium Association knew that the oak trees on the Shaker Boulevard tree lawn were dying, being removed, and would eventually have to be replaced.
We love the beautiful fall foliage, but once those leaves fall into our gardens, we are gripped with the urge to blow every leaf away and cut back all our plants. But we know so much more now about what the duff layer provides in terms of both food and shelter to bacteria, fungi and tiny invertebrates, such as earthworms, snails and millipedes, who make a huge contribution to nutrient recycling.
The SLGC Charitable Projects recipients are many and varied, and always most appreciative! We do make a difference. Please give generously when your solicitation letter arrives in October.
We surely hope so! That would be Fantastica! And Fantastica is the name of our next SLGC-sponsored GCA Flower Show, which will take place September 8-10, 2023,

As we begin our new season of SLGC activities, there are two documents that I’d like to share. One is the 2022 GCA by the numbers guide that gives you a snapshot of who and what the GCA is.
