At this time of year you can practically stand still and watch the leaves unfurl and the grass grow. Everything is a brighter green, and despite the snow events we have experienced recently, the daffodils, pansies, and hellebores in my garden are holding up.
We were so fortunate that SLGC member Leah Whidden (Executive Director Lake View Cemetery Foundation) hosted our meeting at Daffodil Hall, along with Chad Clink, Master Arborist with Bartlett Tree Experts.
This was a banner year for the Garden Club of America Katharine M. Grosscup Scholarships in Horticulture. We received 14 applications in January 2022, and awarded a total of $21,000 to 10 students.
Celebrate and photograph a flourish of spring color when the immense collection of rhododendrons are in bloom at the David G Leach Research Station in May. Our cameras will feast on the elegance and beauty of one of the most beloved flowering shrubs.
Your tubers can go directly into the ground in mid to late May when the ground has warmed. Tubers can also be planted in a container at least 3 gal in size.
Dahlias require a site with good drainage and full sun. A little afternoon shade is ok.
