President's Letter - May 2022
Leigh Fabens
Greetings, Garden Friends –
At this time of year you can practically stand still and watch the leaves unfurl and the grass grow. Everything is a brighter green, and despite the snow events we have experienced recently, the daffodils, pansies, and hellebores in my garden are holding up. By the time you read this the magnolias, those gorgeous two-day wonders, will be finished, but other flowering trees and shrubs are just coming into bloom. It’s a beautiful time of year!
The SLGC Board met in person for the first time since before Christmas – we had planned on Zooming in January and February because of the weather, and then along came Omicron. We had a full agenda and a lively discussion, and I am very fortunate to have had a committed, energetic, thoughtful and supportive group of women to work with during these challenging months. I thank them all, and I will be repeating my thanks for the next couple of months as I wrap things up and get ready to turn the works over to Cynthia.
In this newsletter you will find information about our May membership program, an intriguing and unusual offering: a tour of a local distillery! Over the years we have enjoyed programs focused on gardening, the nursery business, landscape design, mushroom culture – but I can’t recall learning about the process of turning native plants into alcoholic beverages. I am looking forward to seeing how they do this at Tom’s Foolery, and I hope to see many of you there on May 24.
In the meantime, enjoy your gardens –
Leigh Fabens
