My vegetable seedlings, lovingly started in March, are ready to plant. The containers await filling with beautiful flowers and herbs. And, the weeds are poking up from the earth as fast as they can. Before I head outdoors, I would like to thank you.

It is a new world. Your Executive Board, and Committee Chairs just completed our first virtual Board meeting. Initially, it was glitch-filled, but thanks to Elizabeth Faremouth, and her technological expertise, the meeting was a success.

It is hard to believe that winter must be lurking around the next cloud as I look out my window with the sun glowing, and the thermometer registered at 50 degrees. It has been lovely to enjoy the mild temperatures with long walks through our parks and neighborhoods.

Happy New Year! I hope your holiday season was aglow with friends and family. I find after all the cheer of the holidays, I welcome winter’s quiet moments in January. It is a perfect time to reflect on all that is good in life. I am particularly thankful for my membership in our garden club. It is wonderful to be a part of an organization which thrives on activity. Our stimulating programs, educational experiences, camaraderie, and yes (!) flower shows are all opportunities for learning and spending time with friends.

Read MoreI recently enjoyed a wonderful trip to England and Scotland. While walking in an old part of London, I stopped to admire a particularly gorgeous, and eye catching, window box. One of our members, Jennifer Wey, makes beautiful containers and I try to send her inspirational photos from time to time. Next to this container was an award plaque. It was from “The Worshipful Company of Gardeners”. I loved it. It could easily be a suitable description of our club and all its members. We are a wonderful company of talented women—some are expert horticulturists, some are imaginative designers, some are extraordinary photographers, and some are creative geniuses in the botanic arts—all of us are volunteers. Thank you for all that you do to make our club a vibrant organization.

Read MoreHappy New Year! Winter, with its peaceful snow, has arrived. This is the time of year I love to watch the birds at the outdoor feeders. The cardinals, juncos, titmice and sparrows are entertaining to see as they vie for positions on the feeders. And, the hopeful squirrel lurking nearby for a few tidbits offers endless delight. The garden is busy with visitors!
