President's Letter January 2020
Mary Bruce Rae-Grant
Dear Friends,
Happy New Year! I hope your holiday season was aglow with friends and family. I find after all the cheer of the holidays, I welcome winter’s quiet moments in January. It is a perfect time to reflect on all that is good in life. I am particularly thankful for my membership in our garden club. It is wonderful to be a part of an organization which thrives on activity. Our stimulating programs, educational experiences, camaraderie, and yes (!) flower shows are all opportunities for learning and spending time with friends. If you know of an individual who enjoys “getting her hands dirty” with volunteer work and who relishes the chance to learn more about nature, gardening or floral design, I hope you will consider proposing her for membership. Our Membership Chair, Bonnie Lau, has written guidelines and instructions for potential candidates below.
I also hope you will continue to enjoy the benefits of being a member of Shaker Lakes Garden Club. We have an interesting program lined up on January 28. Our speaker Keith Kaiser, Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden, will give a presentation about Transforming a Brown Field into a Botanic Garden. Some of our members had a chance to visit this botanic garden a few years ago when we went to Pittsburgh on a Visiting Garden Tour. I hope you enjoy this program on conservation and transformation.
