It is hard to believe that winter must be lurking around the next cloud as I look out my window with the sun glowing, and the thermometer registered at 50 degrees. It has been lovely to enjoy the mild temperatures with long walks through our parks and neighborhoods.
March is a perfect time to propagate plants, and propagation is a good way to get some new plants or replace some old houseplants with younger, more vigorous offspring.
The Founders Fund Committee of the GCA provides monetary grants to projects in local communities proposed by member clubs. Each member club has the privilege of voting for their finalist choice. The winning project is announced at the GCA annual meeting. Vote at the February 25 meeting or vote online.
Both, actually! Hippeastrum is the Latin name for the bulbous, beautiful plants we grow during the holidays, but everyone calls them by their common name, Amaryllis. There are likely over 600 cultivars with more being produced yearly!
