I hope you’ve been enjoying the fall colors this year as much as I have! They have been so vibrant, much more so this year it seems.

Here are some quick updates for November:

  • Please vote! Our voices make a difference.

  • Our next member meeting is Nov 15, 9:30 am at the Western Reserve Land Conservancy with Ann Talarek of Fallingwater.

  • Our next board meeting is Tuesday, November 29, at 9 am at Jennifer Hartford’s home.

  • Please read the fall 2022 GCA Bulletin and the annual report that was included. Many clubs are expanding their reach and are engaging with their communities. How can we do more of this?

Thank you all for supporting my recent trip to the Shirley Meneice horticulture conference in Boston. Over 100 participants attended a workshop I gave on bulbs, corms, rhizomes and tubers. Brent and Becky Heath generously donated examples of each type so that participants could better understand how to plant and care for them.

We had a fun begonia propagation workshop at Jennifer’s. Here’s hoping that all our begonias are beautiful next September for our flower show.

Lee Jacobs is accepting photos for our Instagram page. Send to leegjacobs@gmail.com.

There’s a new National Native Plant Month Initiative launched recently by the GCA. Our goal is to secure a proclamation from all 50 states declaring April 2023 as native plant month. I am part of a team helping to coordinate this with various horticulture, conservation and NAL reps from different zones. This is a great way to promote native plants!

Are you putting your gardens to bed? Remember to leave some of the leaves and the stalks of your perennials because many beneficial insects find refuge in these places over the winter.

Enjoy the last of the fall colors!
