9:30 Coffee, 10:00 Meeting and Program
The Gates Mills Community House
1460 Chagrin River Road
In 2001 Annie and Jay Warmke left lucrative jobs and built a 2200 square foot home made almost entirely out of materials other people had thrown away (tires, bottles, cans…with a healthy supply of mud.) The house is not just zero carbon – it is negative. Their home uses natural systems such as thermal mass, passive solar, rain water harvesting, grey water recycling, composting toilets and solar electric to provide all of their utility needs. Over 30,000 people have toured their “Earthship” – the first built east of the Mississippi. The buildings of Blue Rock are only the beginning of Jay and Annie’s adventure. Join us as Jay discusses his journey from living the “American Dream” to finding real happiness in a house made of garbage.
Our hostesses are Karen Colini, Sue Marston, Laurie Jacobs and Lee Jacobs.
Please respond to Laurie Jacobs in a timely manner.
