Aurora Sanctuary Steps Project

Matt Valencic, project leader, sent photos of one of the projects we funded last spring. The steps are functional and beautiful and surely make a slippery slope much safer. Look forward to a guided field trip to visit the Sanctuary and our steps next spring. This from Matt:
I know you are all interested in our progress and I’m happy to say that we think we’re only about four shallow steps shy of finishing the outside construction of the steps. They will still need to be backfilled with a certain amount of soil and then some landscape fabric and crushed stones put in each step. This is clearly the hardest part almost done. We were really restricted by when people were available to work hence the long time from approval till actual construction. But we’re almost done and very pleased with the on-site engineering that went on throughout this project. It was literally a step by step project.
Ban has done an outstanding job of coordinating the helpers as well as approving every engineering step along the way. Hall was very helpful in getting the very complicated bottom steps completed. They are secure, and there’s room for Kenny to get his DR mower up the drainage.
We originally estimated about 22 steps and we think now it will take 40 to be done. We are ready at 36 with the last few steps to go.
