President's Letter - December 2021

Greetings, Garden Friends –

I’m writing this a few days before Thanksgiving, and thinking about how different our anticipation of the holidays was last year, when we had to plan for remote celebrations and Zoomed gatherings with family and friends. How fortunate we are now – not out of the woods yet, but able to gather in person and share our thanks.

“Not out of the woods” means staying flexible, and our program chairs Amy and Sarah have been tested in that respect over and over. The Greens Workshop will go ahead as planned at St. Paul’s with masks, but the extra meeting planned for December, a “Tea Party” on Tuesday the 14th, will be hosted by Caroline Borrow at her home in Shaker Heights, not The Country Club. You’ll find the information about replies in this newsletter – I hope to see many of you at either event or both! And check future newsletters for updates on other meetings. Julie Given, Hospitality Chair, needs to fill in the blanks in the hostessing schedule – please call her to volunteer.

Do you have a friend who might be interested in joining SLGC? Contact Amy Paine, Chair of the Membership Committee, for dates and details. Three letters are needed in addition to the proposal, and all should come from people who know the candidate well.

The Garden Holiday Show is now open at the Cleveland Botanical Garden, and SLGC is again represented with a beautifully decorated tree. Thanks to Petra Moran, Anne Fitzgerald, and the Provisionals! Think about taking a prospective member to show her what we can do.
