President's Letter - October 2021
Leigh Fabens
Greetings, Garden Friends –
The Fabens are back in Cleveland, but I kept the kayak photo as a reminder of our shortened summer on Georgian Bay. Now we are officially into Autumn, and suddenly it feels like a different season!
We had our first Board meeting last week, in person on Robin Schachat’s screened porch, and on the 30th we will meet in person as a club – but masked – at St. Paul’s for the first of what promises to be a lively program year. COVID continues to confound us. We will proceed according to CDC guidelines and the particular protocols of our venues.
This week we enjoyed the opportunity to participate in the Shirley Meneice Horticulture Conference, an annual GCA event that COVID opened up to virtual attendance by every member of every GCA club. Pre-COVID, only 250 could attend, and that meant that most of us paid no attention to it. I urge you to go on the GCA website and pull up any and all of the recorded features from this year’s conference. Cynthia Druckenbrod was a featured speaker in the morning session of the second day, and she had a fabulous video focused on daylilies but including views of the Druckenbrods’ extensive garden. Her infectious enthusiasm and love of gardening was on display in the Q & A.
