Stearns Trail at the Nature Center

Stearns Trail at the Nature Center

Having restored the All Peoples Trail at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes, work has started on the restoration of the Stearns Trail, originally constructed with contributions and labor of the Shaker Lakes Garden Club. The new entrance will be larger and more welcoming and include a nature play area, as well as newly planted and labeled native trees and shrubs.

Our committee found it gratifying to learn of the inspiring efforts, across the entire area, to recognize the joy and power of life amid growing greenery.

In addition, $1,650 in restricted gifts from members was forwarded to the GCA for support of the Katharine M. Grosscup Scholarships in Horticulture.

Our committee: Anne Ginn, Kate Stenson, Cheri Pace, Nancy Zambie, Sarah Dimling, Mary Bruce Rae-Grant, Cynthia Druckenbrod, Cathy Annable, Nancy Cockley, and Suzanne Taigen gave careful consideration to the merits of each proposal, choosing to offer encouragement and a portion of requested funds to these organizations whose activities reflect the mission of our club. If you have an interest in serving on this committee, please contact us.

We are deeply grateful to the 105 members, 75% of the membership, who contributed generously in response to this year’s solicitation. (Click here to see the complete donor list)
