New Exhibit at the Shaker Historical Museum

The Shaker Historical Museum’s newest museum exhibit, It Takes a Village: The Village Garden Club, the Fight to Stop the Freeway, and the Growth of the Cherry Grove, will be open to the public during museum hours from August 1st - October 18th . This exhibit celebrates the 90th anniversary of the Village Garden Club and the Club's commitment to beautifying the Shaker Lakes region.

In their 90-year history, the Village Garden Club has planted hundreds of trees around Horseshoe Lake and helped lead the fight against the Clark Freeway in the 1960s. Developed in collaboration with the Club, It Takes a Village will feature archival material from the collections of the Village Garden Club and Shaker Historical Society and will include related programming while the exhibit is on view.

The Museum has prepared a digitized version of the show which can be viewed by clicking this link.

Pots During a Pandemic

They aren’t the only things that got a little crazy this year!

Remember last month’s article from Lee Jacobs about the creation of the Point Building garden at Moreland Courts? The plantings have been wildly successful and Lee sent these photos of her “insanely happy pots!” If you have a beautiful floral arrangement or beautiful specimen in your garden, send photos to Dozie for inclusion in the next newsletter.

Selfies Anyone?

The SLGC Board thought it would be a nice idea to have a link on our members only page to a gallery of photos of our members. It may help us get to know new members, as well as to remind us of friends we haven’t seen in a long time. Please send a photo of yourself (a selfie would work) to Dozie for inclusion on the website.

A Bit of Butterfly Beauty

Diana Stromberg took this photo of a black swallowtail butterfly that was "feasting" on a couple of her colorful zinnia flowers.
