Let Your Garden Feed Your Soul
Cynthia Druckenbrod
Despite what is happening the world over, spring is still coming to our gardens, providing us with much needed color and joy during this stressful time. Right now, you can see the blooms of crocus, snowdrops (Galanthus), Lenten roses (Helleborus), and late winter-blooming witch hazels (Hamamelis x intermedia). Some trees are blooming now as well such as the cornelian cherry (Cornus mas) with its bright little yellow flowers and the silver maples (Acer saccharinum) with their diminutive red flowers covering their branches.
Daffodil (Narcissus) foliage continues to lengthen everyday bringing the promise of their sunny blooms soon to follow. And so many other bulbs are beginning to pop out of the ground- squill (Scilla), glory-of-the-snow (Chionodoxa), and hyacinths (Hyacinthus) are not far from blooming.
Our gardens will continue to be a place of refuge for us, so take this opportunity now to spend more time getting reacquainted with your beautiful trees and plants.
