April is Native Plant Month in Ohio
Cynthia Druckenbrod
You already know April is officially designated as native plant month and Ohio was the FIRST state in the US to make this important designation. So why not celebrate by planting a few native plants in your yard? The Nature Center of Shaker Lakes native plant sale is going on now through April 5.
Some of my favorites include Columbine, Mountain Mint, Turtlehead, Cardinal Flower and Great Blue Lobelia - all of which are available at the NCSL. If you want additional advice on great native plants to purchase, go to the wonderful Nature in My Backyard website.
There are extensive native plant lists and locations where you can buy them. I began adding native plants to my perennial beds a decade ago and it has not only benefitted my backyard, but it has also brought me great joy!
Plant native!
