We wanted to share another Cleveland Metroparks program that is being offered in a diverse and local community. This camp is just down the street from me in Bratenahl but is directed to youth who do not normally have access to outdoor education. The East Side of Cleveland has fewer activities and Metroparks is hoping to change that.
Euclid Beach STEM Adventure Camp
During the summer of 2023, Cleveland Metroparks will be offering six weeks of free summer camps at Euclid Beach Park. The goal of these camps is to welcome and inspire youth to explore our reservations through hands-on learning opportunities in the parts of the Emerald Necklace that touch the East Cleveland, Collinwood, and Euclid communities.
Euclid Beach STEM Adventure Camp curriculum will focus on the design cycle approach to teaching. Campers will ask questions about the environment and work to find answers through experimentation and exploration. Microscopes, butterfly nets, field guides, kayaks, and fishing poles are just some of the tools these future scientists will use on their adventures. A total of six weeks of camp will be offered through June and July. Two weeks will be designated for each of the following age ranges: 7-8 years, 9-10 years, and 11-13 years.
Partnerships with local organizations make this program more robust and impactful for campers. Breakfast and lunch will be provided through the Summer Feeding Program offered by The Greater Cleveland Food Bank. Memorial Nottingham Library will provide weekly programming and each camper will be given access to a Scholar Success library card application. Cleveland Metroparks internal programming partnerships will include recreational and team-building activities led by Youth Outdoors and kayaking in Euclid Creek led by Outdoor Recreation.
