Dear Friends,
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
If you're like me, you love our seasons and January is a time to rest from all the gardening work of last summer while looking forward to spring! Many of us enjoy our houseplants now more than ever and what an appropriate time to have a program on how to keep them thriving! I hope you'll join our next member's meeting on Jan 24 at Hallie Stewart's home- please rsvp using the Sign up genius link in this newsletter.
The board WILL be meeting in person on Jan 17 at Dozie Herbruck’s home. Thanks Dozie, for hosting! Hopefully the weather will cooperate! Another reminder along with the minutes from the last meeting will be sent out in early Jan.
What's happening in the GCA? The 2023 Photography Conference on Jan 26 is virtual and FREE for GCA members! I highly encourage you to sign up here.
We'll be meeting in March this year- the 28th, 9:30 am coffee, followed by a wonderful book discussion. Betsy Stueber has kindly agreed to host and we’ll be discussing Braiding Sweetgrass, by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Available online or better yet, support your local bookstore.
The winter 2022 issue of The Real Dirt is out and has great articles as always on planning for your gardens next spring/summer. Check it out here.
Note that the 2023 Freeman Medal for Plant of the Year was awarded to Coral Honeysuckle, Lonicera sempervirens and runners up were Spicebush, Lindera benzoin, and American Beautyberry, Callicarpa americana. All great plants! Nominations for an herbaceous plant of the year for 2024 are due May 31 this year. Let’s figure out a nominee!
Looking forward to seeing you at our upcoming meetings!
