My husband and I grow several types of Hydrangeas, but the one that really WOWs everyone is Hydrangea arborescens ‘Annabelle’. Although it’s an older mophead cultivar, it still received an Honorable Mention in Mt. Cuba’s recent trials. The newer mophead cultivars have stronger stems so it’s not necessary to stake them as we do for the Annabelles. Nevertheless, we love how many pollinators are attracted to the these great shrubs.
A few years ago, a little garter snake also found one of our Annabelles to be quite a nice spot for surveying her domain!
