CBG Holiday Show - Best Tree Ever!
Cindy Elliott
It’s that time of year again to visit the annual Garden Holiday Show at Cleveland Botanical Gardens, November 19 through December 31 to see the decorated trees, wreaths, floral displays and gingerbread houses!
The overall show theme is ‘Twinkle in the 216!’ that highlights the Cleveland-Metro area neighborhoods! After research with the Shaker Historical Society, the SLGC provisional team has designed a tree to celebrate the history, traditions, and heritage of the North Union Shaker sect.
We cascaded dried hydrangea from Elane Better’s garden to encircle the tree. All of the ornaments represent different aspects of the Shakers as depicted by the placard:
The Shaker Order of Christmas
North Union Shaker Industries
Making of Flat Brooms
Invented Apple Parer and Corer
Fabricated Silk
Sold Seed Packets
Developed Clothespins
North Union Shaker Christmas Traditions
Day of Celebration with Singing
Stars on Children’s Foreheads
Handmade Gifts to Each Other and Needy
Angels represented pure life
Greeting Cards with Floral Designs
Our tree is one of two large 10-foot trees at the lobby entrance as you enter the show – so you won’t miss it! See the fun we had together decorating our traditional tree!
