The GCA Katharine M. Grosscup Scholarships in Horticulture 2021
Leslie Marting
As everyone with children or grandchildren knows, 2020 was a challenging year for students. Though many colleges and universities held classes remotely for part or all of the year, there was still a robust pool of applicants for the Garden Club of America scholarships. The Katharine M. Grosscup Scholarships in Horticulture received nine applications in January 2021, and awarded a total of $21,500 to seven students. As always, our committee of three members each of the Shaker Lakes GC (Diane Christ, Jane Pinkas and Leslie Marting, Chair) and the GC of Cleveland (Carolyn Batcheller, Mary-Scott Cebul and Martha Harding) were impressed with the commitment to their studies, especially in this pandemic year, shown by our scholars. Please take a few minutes to read about these wonderful young people.
The Grosscup is one of the oldest of the GCA’s 28 scholarships, the only one still managed by a local committee. It is a great honor for the Shaker Lakes Garden Club to have a GCA scholarship named in memory of a member. The generous donations of SLGC members who designate the Grosscup in their Charitable Projects giving make this important work possible. The students are immensely grateful for your support.
