President's Letter - March 2022
Leigh Fabens
Greetings, Garden Friends –
March is the month of the Vernal Equinox – Spring will officially be here in just a few weeks! If the history of March weather in Cleveland is any guide, it might not look much like “spring” but the days have been getting longer and they will begin to get longer than the nights. Snowdrops are visible now in parts of the garden where the snow has melted, and other early risers will follow soon.
This year we have added a March program meeting to the calendar: Cynthia Druckenbrod will share her gardening expertise on Tuesday the 8th at the Cleveland Racquet Club. It will be good to see everyone in person, and Cynthia never fails to entertain while she enlightens. And she has a very impressive library of slides!
Also at the March meeting: we will vote to confirm our support for the “Bee Successful: The 4G Honey Team” project. If you haven’t already, read about this wonderful project in the Winter issue of the GCA Bulletin, pp. 43-45.
The SLGC Charitable Projects Committee, led by Jane Ellison and Laurel Stack, has been hard at work evaluating twelve proposals. The committee met in late February to discuss the comparative merits of each one, and in next month’s newsletter you will find brief summaries of the projects they deemed the best. We ask the membership to vote for one, to receive our maximum award of $5000. Donations are still being accepted, and final allocations will not be determined until the end of April. The more we have to give, the better!
