From Robin: A Fun Forestry Movie with a Great Sound Track!
Currently Streaming from either Cleveland Cinematheque or the Cedar Lee is a brilliant new film called Chuck Leavell: The Tree Man, which won the People's Choice Award recently at the Sedona International Film Festival, as well as a number of lesser awards. It is a documentary full of good music (Leavell is a keyboard artist with The Rolling Stones, among other classic rock bands), but the important thing on which this film focusses is that he is a world-class environmentalist. He was co-founder of Mother Nature Network, and with his wife the co-owner of a tree farm dedicated to sustainable forestry; their farm in Georgia was named Outstanding Tree Farm of the Year in 1999. He is a US Forestry Service Honorary Ranger, and was named Tree Farmer of the Year. In December, the film will be available as video-on-demand. Get ready to learn about trees, and dance while you are doing it!
SH Library Offers Zoom Talks
On November 18 John Barber, of Friends of Lower Lake, gave an interesting Zoom talk, under the auspices of the Shaker Heights Library, entitled Creating Bird-Friendly Habitats. His handout offered a link to a .pdf book by Kate Brandes entitled Native Plants for the Small Yard. It can be downloaded here.
