Provisionals Need Hydrangeas!
Great plans are being made to decorate a holiday tree at the CBG this fall. Our provisional members need your hydrangeas, either dried or straight from your bush. If you have some to share, drop them off, by November 9, at Jennifer Hartford’s home in Shaker Heights (2761 Chesterton Road) or Lori Cohen's in Pepper Pike (31749 Gates Mills Blvd.) Then come visit their creation at GLOW.
Recycle Your Plastic Pots
Robin Schachat
When we went on a Horticulture trip last month to Bluestone Perennials, we were offered a wonderful opportunity. Instead of throwing plastic pots in which we purchase plants into the trash, eventually to sit for thousands of years in a landfill, we have been offered the opportunity to bring them to Bluestone periodically and they will be recycled for us at no charge! There is no need to call ahead. Just check in at the office and they will tell you where to dump the pots. This sort of recycling is not available to us as normal humans, but the nice people at Bluestone (who do not, themselves, use plastic pots for the plants they sell) are only too happy to save the earth for us. I suggest we fill up a car or two every six months after a garden club meeting and drive on up! Feel free to speak with Cynthia or me about this!

Amazon Smile
from Suzy: Did you know there is another very easy and painless way to contribute to Charitable Projects? When you buy from Amazon Smile, .5% can be directed to SLGC. Go to Amazon Smile and when it asks for the Charity you wish to support, write in Shaker Lakes Garden Club. You would be surprised at how it will build if ALL SLGC Amazon-shoppers do it. I am not a big Amazon shopper but if I understood our Treasurer, Nancy Zambie correctly, I may have contributed 1/3 of the monies we got last year. It all adds up and you know you are going to be ordering all manner of stuff as the holidays approach. Get shopping and help fund our projects!
