President's Letter May 2018

Sarah Dimling

Dear Friends,

Sarah Dimling photo.JPG

Our unusual Cleveland weather pattern commentary continues in this May edition. At this writing, we are a month into spring, snow is still visible and the temperature is hovering just above freezing. Let’s hope Mother Nature makes it up to us soon... allowing lovely horticulture entries to emerge for our upcoming flower show. We certainly don’t wish to be forced to insert a last minute “do not” bloom into our catchy title.

We have much to look forward to over the next few months:

May 18  - Flower Show at McGregor Home, 14900 Private Dr, Cleveland, OH 44112
May 29  - Membership Meeting at Holden Arboretum featuring a presentation on trees
June 26 - Annual Meeting at Nuevo Modern Mexican & Tequila Bar
July 10  - Provisional Tea at Julie Given’s home in Shaker Heights

This is my favorite time of year for Shaker Lakes Garden Club as our gardens wake up from extended naps, we celebrate special events surrounding our shared love of gardening, and welcome our new Provisionals and “flown up” active members. As always, please share your ideas with me or other board members to ensure SLGC’s future path continues to be educational, interesting, relevant and, most of all, fun. Additionally, it’s important for as many members as possible to participate in club activities and accept requests for leadership roles, committee positions and general “asks.” Speaking of “asks,” our Standing Rules require that serving as a hostess is an obligation of membership. If you haven’t served as a membership meeting hostess in over two years, please sign up for the 2018-2019 season with our incoming Hospitality Chair Judy Eakin.

I look forward to seeing you at our terrific spring events.

Sarah
