Giverny, Claude Monet's house & exquisite gardens, were absolutely magical! It was one of our favorite stops with our TAUCK riverboat cruise on the Seine in September. There were no water lilies blooming this time of year, but we saw so many other incredible flowers as we walked through the pathways of Monet's many gardens. I could not stop taking photos, as each flower and garden was more beautiful than the one before! We were so fortunate in that TAUCK allowed us an early entry to Giverny one hour before it was open to the public - so special!
Monet discovered the charming village of Giverny in 1883 and purchased the house as a retreat where he could work in peace. However, between 1885 and 1915 a steady stream of artists came there with hopes of studying Impressionism with him and created an impromptu artists' colony.
