President's Letter
Sarah Dimling
Dear Friends,
I hope you all had a fun and relaxing summer! While it's officially fall, it feels more like summer right now than much of our actual summer. As I reflect on my letters from last year, a dual theme of Cleveland's unseasonal weather and unprecedented professional sports team victories (namely our beloved Cavs 2016 NBA Championship) emerges. And so the theme continues... with Cleveland Hopkins Airport setting a record high temperature of 90 degrees for September 23...and the Indians setting the second longest winning streak EVER in Major League Baseball, only to be outdone by the Giants over 100 years ago.
You might ask how this relates to our club? Shaker Lakes Garden Club continues to gain momentum as well. We are thrilled to welcome the following new Provisional Members; Deborah Coakley, Lori Cohen, Elisabeth Faremouth, Meg Furey, Jennifer Hartford, and Suzanne Taigen. Thanks to Betsy Stueber, we have a terrific membership meeting program lineup. Courtesy of Gale Clarry, our first VIsiting Gardens trip of the SLGC year is coming up on October 25th to the beautiful Laurentia Winery in Madison, Ohio.
Many thanks to Jane Ellison for planning an outstanding GCA Conservation Work Study trip earlier this month, featuring our beautiful city and surrounding areas of interest. Jane will share highlights with us at the October membership meeting. Robin Schachat is hard at work planning our Flower Show starting May 18, 2018 at MacGregor Home in East Cleveland. You will learn more about this over the coming months and I urge each and every one of you to participate in two ways; both as a volunteer for one of the myriad jobs and register in one or more classes in the show. It will be a lot of fun, educational and entries of ALL levels are enthusiastically encouraged.
I'm looking forward to seeing all of you soon!
