President's Letter May 2017

Sarah Dimling

Dear Friends,

Hopefully our extreme changes in weather settle into a more predictable pattern as we head into the home stretch toward great gardening weather. Speaking of home stretches...let’s hope our beloved Cavs clinch a consecutive NBA championship title this spring!

April was a busy month for Shaker Lakes Garden Club and May promises to continue the trend. The Nominating Committee has been hard at work putting together a terrific 2017-2018 Executive Board and Trustees slate. Officers will be elected by members at the Membership Meeting in May.  Susan White has seamlessly coordinated the membership process and is excited about the potential new Provisional class and sharing the list with you once finalized.

Molly Dixon has planned a great May Membership Meeting program on May 30th at the Holden Arboretum. The program will feature a visit to the Murch Canopy Walk and Kalberer Family Emergent Tower. RSVPby May 22nd to Anne Rogoff.  Approximately 20 members enjoyed a fun and educational Visiting Gardens hike on April 19th, led by fellow member Leah Whidden, to the Beaver Marsh in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Mary Anne Liljedahl and Gale Clarry have planned yet another special Visiting Gardens trip on June 7th to the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh. This day trip will also include visits to two private gardens in Pittsburgh. RSVP by May 19, ABSOLUTE DEADLINE! Your check for $40.00, payable to SLGC, is your reservation for this special event. Please mail your check to Mary Anne Liljedahl, 34650 Cedar Rd., Gates Mills, OH 44040

As we near the home stretch of our 2016-2017 SLGC year, it’s hard to believe it’s already time to think about our Annual Meeting. The meeting will consist of a luncheon on Tuesday, June 27th, at Margaret Ransohoff’s home in Shaker Heights. The annual meeting date is not listed in your Directory so please be sure to mark your calendars.  More details to follow.

I wish you happy spring digging in your gardens and look forward to seeing you at upcoming SLGC programs and events.

Fondly,

Sarah
