President's Letter April 2017
Sarah Dimling
Dear Friends,
Happy Spring Equinox 2017! This is the time of year I like to check my flower beds for signs of life, and it never fails to thrill me to see the first signs of green emerging from the soil. I was so pleased to welcome the green shoots until Mother Nature decided to treat us with her recent late winter blast. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that my favorite whimsical Allium schubertii survived the freeze.
Our February program featuring Patrick Blanc, leading expert on vertical gardens, was a huge hit. Approximately 300 people attended Patrick’s educational and fascinating presentation at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Be sure to RSVP for our upcoming April 25th Member Meeting featuring horticulturist and plant expert Penny Orr at the Chagrin Falls Township Hall.
February and March included several other interesting and instructive events: The Provisionals, led by Lynn Lehmann, participated in a Succulents Workshop in February at Auburn Pointe Greenhouse and created beautiful topiaries with succulents; Conservation chair Ann Whitney attended the Garden Club of America’s National Affairs and Legislation Annual Meeting in Washington DC; and six SLGC members, led by Jane Ellison, met with Senator Rob Portman’s Northeast Ohio Director at his Cleveland office to discuss environmental and conservation issues.
I look forward to seeing you when we resume our programs in April and can't wait to spend more time outdoors. An opportunity to do so is coming up on April 19 with our Visiting Gardens walking tour of Beaver Marsh in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
Fondly,
Sarah
