President's Letter February 2017
Sarah Dimling
Dear Friends,
Our persistent atypical Cleveland weather theme is becoming increasingly apparent. Mother Nature seems to throw curve balls every time I sit down to write the monthly President’s Letter. We are expecting highs today near 60 degrees...a whopping 30 degrees above average. It looks like my boxwood may survive this winter after all.
As reported in our January newsletter, we are thrilled to have Patrick Blanc, world-renowned expert on vertical gardening from Paris, France, speak at our February 28th Membership meeting. The venue is the Cleveland Museum of Natural History so there is more than ample capacity to include many guests. Please reply right away if you haven’t already and be sure to invite your spouses, friends, family and colleagues who might have an interest in this fabulous program. The reply link for SLGC members is included in this edition, along with a separate invitation for non-SLGC members. Many thanks to Molly Dixon who has spearheaded this event and spent countless hours planning this exciting program.
It’s hard to believe it’s already time to start planning next year’s programs. Our membership programs are arguably the most important aspect of our club for encouraging and maintaining strong membership participation. Continuing to offer a wide variety of educational, interesting and relevant programs is vital to our club’s ongoing success and attracting new members. Please contact Betsy Stueber as soon as possible with your program/speaker ideas for 2017-2018.
The Nominating Committee, headed up by Jennifer Langston, has been hard at work selecting the SLGC Board Officers and Trustees for the upcoming year. These women will continue to lead SLGC in a long line of dedicated and talented women. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful membership.
With spring around the corner Mary Anne Liljedahl and Gale Clarry are planning a Visiting Gardens trip that consists of a hike through Cuyahoga Valley National Park. It will be fun to visit this local national park treasure while getting exercise with friends.
