My Favorite Things
Joan Mullen
My husband Mike and I lived in London in the early 1990’s. One winter was one of the rainiest in a number of years and the days were short of sunlight. Each Friday, I found myself stopping at the floral stand outside the Tube Station to pick up a a bunch of tulips. The flowers were much less expensive than here in the States and they brought an instant sense that spring was around the corner in our flat. I find myself still indulging in this habit twenty plus years later, and my 4 daughters enjoy having tulips around the house too. Every now and then, I even treat myself to some gorgeous Parrot Tulips! Lately, Heinen's and Whole Foods have been selling three bunches of tulips for $12.00. Pretty soon, we will be seeing tulips blooming outside in our own gardens.
