THE 2016 FOUNDERS FUND WINNER AND RUNNERS UP
Lynn Lehmann
Each year the GCA Founders Fund Committee selects three civic projects from a large number of potential ones submitted by member clubs like our own. One is chosen by us, the members, to receive a $30,000 gift. Beginning in 2016, the other two finalist projects will each receive $10,000. As you recall, SLGC members voted at our February 23rd meeting, and our club sent our one club vote for the Building Sustainability at Hartford’s Historic Keney Park, followed by a narrow margin with the GCA 1st place winner.
Congratulations to the winner, The Historic Washington Garden at the Old North Church, proposed by the Beacon Hill Garden Club, Zone I, and to the two Runners Up, Building Sustainability at Hartford Historic Keney Park, proposed by the Garden Club of Hartford, Zone II, and The Wetlands Education Center at Cattail Marsh, proposed by Magnolia Garden Club, Zone IX.
The Historic Washington Gardens at the Old North Church is planning to recreate the church’s gardens prior to its 300th year celebration. The following link has photos and a detailed description of their project.
