One of My Favorite Seasonal Things
Every year in mid December I start looking carefully at Heinen’s floral display to see if they have the white winter-blooming helebore plants in yet. They are Canadian raised and blooming now, but can be held to plant during a winter thaw after they stop blooming. Helebores are hardy to Zone 4, well north of here. These lovely and long-lived plants make wonderful gifts for fellow gardeners, or to enjoy yourself and added to your perennial garden. Please note, they will not stand an over-warm house, drying out until spring. Keep them in a cool, light place if possible, especially after they stop blooming. Water them sparingly until you can plant them out. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
